Vivaldi 2.2 is now available with better tab management, mini video player and customizable toolbar

Vivaldi 2.2 is now available, a new browser update oriented to power users and based on Chromium. It is just the first release since Microsoft announced that Edge would also be based on the open source project created by Google and on which Opera and Chrome are also based.

In Vivaldi they believe that it is now more important than ever for browsers to distinguish between them, and that we can not afford to reach a point where the web means the same as Chrome. Vivaldi seems to have a clear focus, betting on more and more customization options, and this latest version brings us a few novelties in that regard.

Vivaldi 2.2 adds better management of tabs and one of its novelties has to do with the possibility of grouping groups of these and save them as sessions that can be restored later and that we can also rename.

You only have to press Ctrl + Shift in Windows or ⌘ + Shift in macOS to select the tabs and then right click on them to show the menu with the option to save tabs selected as a session.

Another new function is that of keyboard shortcuts for accessing a web page. You can launch the function using Vivaldi's commands by pressing F2 on Windows or ⌘E on macOS and typing "shortcuts". Depending on the site you will see the list of specific shortcuts for that website, if you have them, such as Wikipedia.

The new Vivaldi also adds a feature that many users love, the mini-video player or PiP (Picture in Picture). You just have to right click on a video to show a contextual menu that will allow you to watch the video in a small external window.

In the case of YouTube it does not work with the right click menu, although they explain if you double click right, it will, but I have not been able to do it personally. Maybe you need some adjustments.

In addition to the aforementioned, Vivaldi 2.2 also adds some new customization options for the toolbar that allow us to change a bit the organization of the address bar and the buttons, this they plan to expand in the future. And in Linux, they have improved support for Netflix and Prime Video, so that it is easier to see the videos of these platforms without problems.
