Microsoft Teams outperforms Slack, and shows that you can be late if you know how

If there is a tool that today is equivalent to corporate communication, although it is also widely used by communities, that is Slack. Since its founding, the startup has perfectly understood the needs of companies, offering a multitude of integration options and converting the old IRC into something that caters to the most modern uses. His leadership, especially by image, seemed impregnable.

However, according to a survey of 901 people by SpiceWorks in the world of the company, Microsoft Teams has surpassed the numbers of Slack, and its growth is spectacular. In the same 2016 study, Teams had only 3% adoption, and now that figure is 15%.

In the same period of time, Slack has only grown from 13% to 15% of use in companies, something to keep in mind, considering that the company wants to go public. According to the figures of SpiceWorks, the clear leader of the sector is Skype for Business with 44% (growing from 36% in 2016), but it must be taken into account that its use responds more to video calls. Its competitor in that sense is Google Hangouts, which has gone from 16% to 11% in 2018.

Arriving late but offering value and knowing what the market needs, the keys of Teams

When Microsoft Teams arrived on the market, Slack already had three years and a lot of popularity. However, the mission for Microsoft companies has been strengthened under the direction of Nadella, and despite being a product inferior to Slack in many sections and not offer advantages in issues such as performance, criticized for its consumption of RAM , Teams works for your good strategy.

Slack is free, but has payment features such as infinite history or storage of up to 15 GB per member (compared to 5 GB of all the basic version equipment). A fundamental difference with Microsoft Teams, which now also has a free version, is that it is offered in full with Office 365, and as we know, the subscription suite is one of the great successes of the new era, along with the growth of Azure.
Between Skype for Business and Teams, Microsoft holds a hegemonic position in corporate communication

In addition, as the survey expands, Microsoft Teams has managed to position itself, a long way from Slack, and sharing position with Skype, as the safest alternative. It also beats its direct competitor compatibility, manageability, cost and reliability. Slack excels in innovation and manageability for the user. If so far has grown fast, the forecast from the survey is that Microsoft Teams will take over 41% of companies in 2020.

Not all is good news for applications in the sector, and that is that the number of respondents who think they distract from work or facilitate a possible hacking of data from the companies they work in has increased. Interestingly, the number of people who think that chat applications will replace email in the next few years also decreases.
